Program

Chair: Linda Whitaker
The Program Committee plans and coordinates, educational and networking programs for the chapter.  Our goal is to provide program content that will help each member and guest stay informed about topics timely, and pertinent to the Washington, DC and Maryland commercial real estate community.  In addition to unique programs our schedule includes regularly scheduled programs such as the annual Market Forecast, Back to Business Fall Event, and Member-Guest Holiday Breakfast.

Awards

Chair: Linda Whitaker
The Awards Committee plans the Chapter’s annual Awards of Excellence program, and gala.  The committee selects competitive categories, and develops criteria for each award.  In addition, the committee develops all marketing collateral, selects the judges, and hosts the judging event.  The cocktail and dinner logisitics are also determined by the committee, in conjunction with the Chapter Executive.

Education

Co-Chairs:
Alton Fryer, Manekin Company
Bill Magruder, Clark Construction Group, LLC
This recently formed committee focuses on those situations which provide mutually beneficial opportunities to both graduate level college students and our members for meaningful interaction.  Currently, NAIOP Maryland/DC is a sponsor of The University of Maryland's Colvin Institute of Real Estate Development. The Chapter also has provided a scholarship to a deserving student currently enrolled in this graduate program.
This committee is now exploring the feasibility of undertaking a Mentor Program with graduate students enrolled in a Real Estate program.

Membership/Integration

Chairman: Chris Davitt, Ruppert Landscape Company
The Membership/Integration Committee meets quarterly. Its purpose is to target and attract potential members who would bring value to the organization.  Additionally our committee integrates new members into the organization by actively reaching out to them at meetings throughout their first year.

Legislative

Chair:  Steve Elmendorf, Linowes & Blocher

The Legislative Committee seeks to achieve two principle goals:

    *  To inform Association members about the impacts of new state and local legislation on the commercial real estate development industry, and

    *  To actively participate and affirmatively advocate for the Association in state and local legislative processes on those legislative matters that will impact
the commercial real estate development industry.

The Committee's local focus is Montgomery, Prince George's and Frederick Counties and Washington, D.C.  The Committee generally meets monthly, with additional meetings, as needed, during the term of the State of Maryland legislative session.  The Committee prepares a monthly update on legislative matters for the Association members.

Capital Market

The NAIOP Maryland/DC Capital Markets Subcommittee focuses on issues related to the capital markets that support Commercial Real Estate.   Specifically, the group seeks to stay current on events that impact both the equity and debt markets as well as those which will affect the ability of developers and investors to obtain capital for both construction and existing real estate projects.

The group will hold its first meeting in September 2009.  Thereafter, meetings will be held every 6-8 weeks.
